I have five rabbits: Jack Bunny, Stella Artois, Sidney Crosbun, Khan Noonien Singh, and Tywin Golden Gate Vanilla Thunder Lannister (my sister named him) – all of which are rescues and, with the exception of Stella, had been turned loose in various neighborhoods and parks to fend for themselves.
We are also fostering two more rabbits names Tweak and Ziggy because they require special attention. So, adopt don’t shop.
If you're thinking about adopting a rabbit, or if you're just curious about bunnies in general, I've been using the Famous Last Words as a way to write a primer to rabbit care.

On to a few of my favorite things: I enjoy reading, writing, and sketching.
My favorite books are Hannibal by Thomas Harris, White Fang by Jack London, Rant by Chuck Palahniuk, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (I loved the film adaption of this, too, it was beautifully shot and the acting was great; it's the very realization of the trope "crack treated seriously").
I have a huge collection of DVDs – because I’m old and I enjoy having hard copies of things – and they’re all my favorite movies so I don’t know if I’d be able to pick just one. I enjoy war movies, superhero movies, rom-coms (romantic comedies), and the occasional bro comedy. My favorite television shows are Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Last Comic Standing.
I enjoy comics – both Marvel and DC, though Batman will always hold a special place in my heart. My favorites are A Death in the Family, The Long Halloween, and Hush. I also love the Superman/Batman collections.
I listen predominantly to country and classic rock music. My favorites on the country side are Blake Shelton, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Reba, and Miranda Lambert. On the rock side, I love Kansas, Styx, the Steve Miller Band, AC/DC, Queen, Rush, and Journey. Fun fact: a biopic of Hank Williams is being made with Tom Hiddleston as the lead which should be pretty interesting. Tom Hiddleston is a fantastic actor and I can’t wait to see how he handles this role. From the reviews that I've read so far, he did an excellent job! Since I first posted this introduction, a clip has been released featuring Hiddleston singing "Move It On Over."
First things first, I would like to say thank you for your service. I come from a military family as well and no one deserves more respect than our men and women in uniform past or present. Secondly, I'm super jealous that you have rabbits! I always wanted one as a kid but my mom is a hater of all feline/reptile/rodent type pets. We have only ever had dogs! By the name of your last bunny I think it's safe to assume that your sister is a Game of Thrones fan. Are you as well? That is my favorite show!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment above and thank you so much for your service. It's great that you can share that experience with your family members, too. I love the classic rock music, too and I think it is often overlooked these days. No one understands what good and well-written music is anymore. Good luck with your classes this semester and it was great to get to know you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your service! Oh my goodness your bunny is so cute! I always wanted a rabbit, but my mom is allergic so she always said no. I also love Sherlock! It is up there as one of my favorite TV shows. I have meant to watch Supernatural on Netflix, but it's ten seasons and I don't know if I am ready for that kind of commitment! Superhero movies are my absolute favorite! I enjoy Marvel films more for the most part, but Batman is up there on my list of favorites as well. I am very excited to see how the biopic of Hank Williams turns out! Tom Hiddleston is one of my favorite actors so it will be interesting to see how this movie turns out!
ReplyDeleteOh, more great rabbit pictures, Kirsten - how wonderful! And as a hardcore Trek person I definitely approve of "Khan Noonien Singh" ... while "Tywin Golden Gate Vanilla Thunder Lannister" is also quite the name... it's like a whole Storybook project all rolled into one, ha ha. It sounds like you will find so many points of connection between the stories we are reading for class and the kinds of stories (and songs) that resonate with you, and I am excited to see what kind of project you will want to do. Rabbits? Superheroes? A rabbit superhero...? So many possibilities!
ReplyDeleteI have so many rabbit pictures and I'm always looking for an opportunity to share them!
DeleteThank you for your service Kirsten! I love that all of your bunnies are rescues. There are so many animals that just need a good home. Tywin Golden Gate Vanilla Thunder Lannister is quite a mouthful, but it's an epic name if I've ever seen one. Your sister has good taste. I like the book White Fang, but I haven't read the rest of your favorites. I've heard good things about Vampire Hunter though, so I'll have to give it a read. I hope your semester is going well. It was nice to get to know you!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, thank you for your service! I think it is great that you have rescued five rabbits. I think people should always look at shelters before trying to find an animal through someone that just sees their life as dollar bills. I also like war movies. I think you have a great taste in music! Blake Shelton is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your service! My dad served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and always talks about his days on the ship! I absolutely adore your rabbits! My family is huge into fostering and adopting dogs, so I completely agree with "adopt dont shop." I love Supernatural, although I haven't watched the newest season because it is isn't on Netflix yet, and I also am a huge country music fan!
ReplyDeleteHello Kirsten, thank you and your family for your service! I think it is really cool that you have bunnies, and I especially love that you have one named after a Game of Thrones character. I agree, that adopting is so important. All fur babies need love, not just the youngins’. Also, thank you. Because of you I know want to watch Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which I was so iffy about when it first came out, but you sold me on it.
ReplyDeleteHey Kristen!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service! I actually have a friend in the Navy who is stationed in San Diego. Your bunnies names are awesome, I like how they are all so creative. Anthropology sounds like an interesting major I would have never of thought of something like that. Country Music is my favorite, and you mentioned some really great artist!
First of all, so many bunnies! I love it! They are so adorable, and I bet it is so much fun to have all those bunnies! I am a huge advocate for animal rights, so I am very happy that these bunnies were all rescues. That is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love Supernatural--amazing show! I primarily watch a lot of anime, but Supernatural has got to be one of my favorite TV shows.
Additionally, I understand needing the DVD! I always buy DVDs of my favorite movie, and I buy the actual book (not e-book) of my favorite books. I guess I am old fashioned as well.
Hi Kirsten! I actually have met you in person before, two years ago, when I worked at the Union Starbucks with your mom. So we meet again! It is great that you adopt bunnies and care for them while pursuing your academic studies.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wide variety of interests (shout out to mentioning Marvel and Tom Hiddleson in the same post)! I like how when you are reading your introduction that it reads as if you were saying this to my face right now. Can't wait to read your work, and it's nice to meet you [again]!
Hey I really enjoy your information about being a vet. My grandfather was a gunner in World War II on a B17. He got reassigned for one flight and his crew went down without him on it. So, I have a deep respect for people who have served our country. Also, I am a huge animal person so I appreciate that you care about them. I look forward to reading your stories.
ReplyDeleteHi, Kirsten. It is nice to meet you and read about your favorite things. I do not read books much so I'm not much help there. I don't watch many movies either. The one thing I do a lot of though is listen to country music 24 hours a day. I absolutely love country music. Everything from 60s country to today's pop styled country. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie that you posted a clip of.
ReplyDeleteHi Kirsten,
ReplyDeleteI love that you have so many rescued animals. I am eagerly awaiting the day I can rescue an animal of my own. Are rabbits any easier to care for than a cat or a dog would be? I am in the process of catching up on Supernatural. I am two episodes behind, so I’m almost there! I’ve recently discovered that I really prefer DC over Marvel. All my favorites are from DC.
Hey, Nicole!
DeleteFirst, I wanted to thank you for your kind words on my storytelling post :) I'm glad to hear you're catching up on SPN - things are getting crazy this season!!
As for your question... from my experiences, rabbits are harder to take care of then cats or dogs just because they're not as outwardly expressive (unless you know what to look for, they don't use body language to communicate, not sound). Also because, generally, people tend to have low expectations when it comes to rabbits. They want something calm and quiet and non-destructive - rabbits, especially unaltered (not spayed/neutered), are none of these things.
I talked a little bit about what kind of care my rabbits get and their histories in my posts from week 7, and I'll definitely be doing another rabbit care post for this week's Famous Last Words because, hey, why not?
First I would like to thank you for your services. Secondly, your rabbit looks so fluffy. I have a few pets of my own but having over 5 is quite overwhelming for me. It’s great that you saved these rabbits and are keeping them in great health. My family has a huge collection of DVD’s as well as VHS’s somewhere in our basement. It will be amusing to show them to the younger generations as new technology arises later in the future. Woo comics! I love the Marvel and DC worlds. It was great getting to know you. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Kirsten!
ReplyDeleteLike many of the others in the class, I too would like to thank you for your services to this country. Next: let me gush about your rabbits. I was just talking to my boyfriend about adopting a rabbit. They are so sweet and cute. I am envious of how many you have. If I could, I would be surrounded by animals all the time :) I am a huge fan of classic rock. If I could meet any figure who has passed away, I would opt for Freddie Mercury. He is amazing. It was nice reading about you and I hope you have a good semester!
Hey, Christina!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your wonderful comment! I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing a four-part rabbit primer of sorts for my Famous Last Words posts - the first two parts are already posted, and the next two will be coming out over the next two weeks. If you're serious about adoption, I'd like you to check it out.
If you have any questions about rabbits just let me know :) Here's the link to that first post: http://superwhofolklore.blogspot.com/2015/10/famous-last-words.html
Bunnies! Oh goodness, I read everything I swear but I'm really stuck on the bunnies because they are just too damn cute. (You should have a bunny blog. Do you have a bunny blog? I would totally read a bunny blog.) And yes, adopt don't shop!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling, except I'm a puppy girl. I've fostered more than I can count and always end up keeping them when I shouldn't. I tend to lean towards the older ones or the ones that have special needs, the ones most people throw away or ignore. It's hard, especially because I always have to say goodbye to the older ones so soon, but it means a lot to me to know I could help them and be a part of their lives for a bit. Do you get the same enjoyment and fulfillment from bunnies? I bet so, they look just as sweet as dogs.
Also, I'm a Navy Brat! I grew up in Norfolk and come from a family of submariners. I was in Navy ROTC but medical reasons knocked me out of the running. Thank you for your service. :]
Lastly, Tom Hiddleston -faints-. Anywho, that should definitely be an interesting role to see him in! Nice to meet you!
Hello there Kirsten! First off, thank you so, so much for your service! I'm so glad I have gotten the chance to meet and thank you. Also, I love your background of books! It brings me to my happy place of reading! It seems that we have the same interests which is really cool, too! Your bunny is adorable as I'm sure your others are too. It's so great that you adopted them! I haven't seen Doctor Who yet but my friend has and she loves it. It is, however, on my list of shows to watch!
ReplyDeleteAnywho, nice to meet you!
Hi Kirsten!
ReplyDeleteThank you for serving in the military. I have a lot of respect for what you have done! I had some bunnies about six years ago. It was fun but a lot of work. My cats and rabbits were friends, which was just the cutest thing. The one rabbit, Roger, got out of the house and ran away and did not come back. I had to give away the other rabbit (Bunzinee) and had someone cat sit for me for a year when I first moved to Norman. We got an apartment that did not allow pets. My daughter and I both have had some vicious bunny scratches. I really like Rush too. They are one of my all time favorite bands. Nice to meet you! I was surprised that there was a person in our class that I have not got to meet yet! Enjoy the rest of the semester!
Hi Kirsten!!
ReplyDeleteMy cousins used to have rabbits growing up and I loved playing with them. I love all the creative names you have given them. I’m so glad you included a trailer for I Saw the Light. I have recently become a Tom Hiddleston fan. I’m so impressed with his southern accent. But anyways, I wish you the best this semester!!
Hi Kirsten!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, thank you for your service!
Second, FIVE RABBITS? I have heard of people with five cats or five dogs, but never five rabbits! Wow! But I think that I so awesome that you rescue them!
We would definitely get along when it comes to music! I love country music and some of my favorites are the ones that you listed too!
Hope you have enjoyed the class!
